Tools for Organ Builders
Calculation tools for organ building and voicing work.
These tools are under active development and have not been extensively field-tested. If you find errors or have suggestions for improvement, I would welcome your feedback.
Pipe Scale Calculator
Analyse organ pipe scales against the Töpfer normscale. Computes normscale deviations for six octave positions, Nolte equivalent diameters for wooden pipes, and voicing data including flue areas, wind velocity, volume flow, and the Ising intonation number.
Open tool →Principal Chorus Analyzer
Analyse the scaling of a principal chorus by plotting the normscale deviations of multiple stops against sounding pitch. Compares diameter scales and mouth width scales across the chorus from 16′ to ⅛′, including quint pitches. Based on the normalization method described by Michael McNeil.
Open tool →Mixture Composition Analyzer
Chart the sounding frequencies of a mixture stop across the keyboard. Enter the rank composition and break points, and the tool calculates and plots the frequency of each rank for all 61 notes, showing the characteristic sawtooth pattern at each break. Includes reference lines for unison pitches.
Open tool →Reference Pitch Calculator
Correct a measured pitch reading for temperature differences between the reference condition and the moment of measurement. Enter the reference pitch and temperature, the measured pitch and temperature, and the calculator returns the deviation in cents and the pitch adjusted back to the reference temperature. Supports °C and °F.
